Death of Silence: Excerpt
Here is a clip from my original script “Death of Silence.” For more information, please contact me.
All sound in the forest is muffled. Everything is heard through Zoe’s POV.
BEN, 28, puts out a camp fire with nearby dirt and sets up camp. Zoe, now 23, stares at the dirty, blood-stained HOSPITAL BRACELET that hangs loosely around her thin wrist. It reads “ZOE FRATER, PATIENT 109, INTERIUM HUMAN TRIAL 1.”
Ben approaches her from behind and taps her on the shoulder to get her attention.
All dialogue is spoken through SIGN LANGUAGE.
Thinking about the medical trials again?
Don’t think so hard about it. What happened was not your fault.
You saw the files, the state of the hospital when you found me. I was the only one not affected.
I wouldn’t say that.
Hearing loss and coma are small compared…to being one of those things.
(Shakes head) True. I’m taking first watch. We should be safe tonight.
Zoe nods and lets Ben lead her to two SLEEPING BAGS he set up earlier. Zoe lays down facing Ben as Ben leans up against a nearby tree.
Ben, are you sure we’re safe here? I have a bad feeling.
What did I tell you when I first found you wandering that hospital?
I don’t know. I couldn’t hear you.
I said I’ll be your ears-
If I watch your back. You’ve told me.
Think of your happy place and get some sleep. Tomorrow, we will check a town nearby for supplies.
Zoe smiles and snuggles in for the night. It doesn’t take long for her to fall asleep.
